Day #13 Entry

This morning I checked up on Momo and she laid another egg! Her 5th one! I hope she won't lay anymore eggs. 4 is enough if they all hatch! o_O... oh boy...what am I gonna do if all 4 hatches. Taking care of them all is not a problem but its where I can put them is the problem. I don't have room in my bedroom to put them all...I can't put them anywhere else in the house since they can go pretty loud...it's not fair to my family. I'm gonna have to figure it out. o_o... oh I forgot to mention...Momo laid her 4th egg on Sunday...hehe

Today I also gave them some birdie bread. Melon ate some...hehe. This time I didn't sprinkle any millets on top and he still ate it so I was quite happy about that...hehe. =) I took this pic (the pic on the left) this morning...Momo as usual, is sitting or lying on top of the eggs and Melon stays outside of the nesting box. I don't really like this nesting box...but I had to get it coz there's no wooden ones around locally.

Besides doing orders and searching online for birdie info, I've been also trying to look for the perfect cage for them. This cage they're in, is tall and narrow and that's not the right cage for them since they hardly go down unless they need water or food. I need a cage that is wide.

Day #12 Entry

Today I tried my hands on making some birdie bread for Momo and Melon. =D I decided that I really have to get them to eat veggies...and birdie bread is suppose to be a good way to get them to eat it if you add veggies in it. The recipe was from a lovebird forum so I trust that it's safe for birdies to eat. I followed all the base instructions and steps and added the additional veggies of my choice. I just added broccoli and corn...in case if they don't eat it at all, I wouldn't waste too much food. I mixed all the ingredients and put the mix into a 8" x 8" baking pan lined with waxing paper. I baked it for about 30 minutes as instructed and it turned out fine! Thank goodness coz I haven't baked anything from scratch for like 4-5 years...lol. After the bread cooled off, I cutted it into 1" cubes...so yea I have like 64 of these bread cubes. Its gonna last me for little bit over 2 months. I'm gonna give them 1 cube a day...hehe.

Just a while ago, I spotted Melon eating the birdie bread! I'm sooo happy! really happy! He's always the first one to stay away from anything new in the cage but ever since Momo started laying eggs, he completely changed. He's more brave and protective now instead of being a coward. XD It's a good thing. I hope he'll continue to eat it...the birdie bread should give him more nutrients...and since he feeds Momo, she'll have more nutrients as well. I've been worrying that Momo might not have enough nutrients since she laid 4 eggs...so I'm trying to give her more variety of food. She's been staying in the nesting box most of the day today as expected...I don't get to see her much but when I go over to the cage to talk to Melon, she'll answer instead. It's kinda funny. hehe

Day #10 entry

Birdie finally laid her 3rd egg! It's exactly a week after the 2nd egg was laid. I noticed Momo look a lot skinnier this morning and my mom told me to check if she laid a egg...so I opened the nesting box and there was a egg right beside the other one that was laid last week. =D I'm so relieved now that she laid her 3rd one. woohoo~

Day #8 Entry

Nothing really new happened for the past 5 days. I was expecting the third egg on monday but as of now, there's none. I've been quite worried that the egg could be stuck inside (egg binding) but she doesn't look like she is coz she looks fine and healthy. Her lower stomach is still bigger than normal but not as big as the day before she laid the second egg. I've been reading around lovebird forums and websites and they all say a egg every other day with 4-6 eggs per clutch. There were a few exceptions especially for the first clutch that it could be less like 3 eggs...and there were cases of delays up to a week to lay the egg. Momo's eating fine...her movements are fine and her eyes are very opened and not like she's sick. Her poo looks fine too. I just hope there's nothing wrong with her.

Last night I stayed up late like usual...sewing and going online to look up info. I'm really glad there's youtube...lol. Reading info and actually visually looking at it is quite different. There were many lovebird clips with useful tutorials...such as how to build a brooder. I've been trying to know how to make one and that clip really helps a lot. Now I know how and what materials I need, I can make one as soon as the egg hatches (if it does) There were also a few handfeeding clips and egg hatching clips as well. If the egg does hatches, I'm thinking of handfeeding it. I've read that after the baby hatches, you're suppose to leave it with their parents to feed for 10 days unless you really have to...like them not feeding it or hurting the baby. After about 10 days, you can remove the baby from the nest and put it in a brooder and hand feed it. The hand feeding part is difficult though. I still don't know the amount of formula I need to mix and what temperature...and also I'll have to feed it quite a few times a day...during the day and middle of the night as well. It is a lot of work but at the same time it can be fun and rewarding...so I dunno. I want a tame lovebird just like my first one. I really miss that little guy...=(

Day #3 entry

July 19, 2008

Momo's belly looked smaller than yesterday. My mom and I suspect she laid a egg already. I've been trying to peek in the hole of the nesting box and see if there is a egg but Momo and Melon kept blocking my view by standing right in front of the hole. -___-;...I kept saying excuse me but they didn't care...lol. The egg that I discovered was still on the table. Since there's a hole on it, I have to throw it away...but for some reason I couldn't get myself to do it till today. Mom was curious about what it looks like inside....I was too...so I gently cracked open part of the shell. It looks exactly like a chicken egg...except its a lot smaller. Actually I still don't know if the egg was fertile or not. -__-...mom told me to take a pic and here it is:

After I took the pic, I threw the egg away...=(...

My curiosity was killing me...so I opened the nesting box to check if there is a egg inside....and there was one! Momo was attacking me again...I know I shouldn't disturb her but I really want to know...I won't disturb her again~ I'm expecting a third egg on monday...I should find out if the egg is fertile or not.

Momo laid eggs- Day# 1 Entry

My Lovebird Momo laid eggs! To keep track of things, I'm gonna update frequently from now on for records...lol

July 17, 2008- Day #1 Entry

In the morning I discovered a white egg with a hole on it sitting at the bottom of the cage, on top of the newspaper right beside the water bowl. I was freaked out and started screaming and ran to my mom...lol. I should of known she had a egg inside of her...recently her lower stomach seem bigger than normal and I can easily see her bum hole when she poo. If I realized sooner, I think the egg would of been saved. =( sigh...I took the egg out of the cage, put it on a paper towel, and took pics of it to keep. I was standing there in front of the cage to observe Momo and she acted like usual. While having breakfast, I searched online for lovebird mating and breeding info and that's when I know I need to get a nesting box and other stuff for them. I went to the pet store in the afternoon and got a nesting box, carefresh bedding, pellets, perches, and a new toy. When I got home, I cleaned their cage and started rearranging the cage with the new stuff. I put some beddings in the nesting box and then put the whole thing in the top right corner of the cage. I took out 2 old perch as it was in the way and put in 2 new ones that are shorter. Also put some pellets in the empty food bowl and hung a new toy up after taking down the old one. It took awhile for Momo and Melon to know how to get in. ..but they eventually figured it out. Momo rearranged the bedding right away...pushing the beddings to the sides. I was worried there was nothing left at the bottom. Melon remained right outside the nesting box trying to protect Momo. Ever since I put the nesting box in the cage, Melon's been quite brave and protective... unlike his usual coward self...lol

July 18, 2008- Day #2 Entry

I got up right away in the morning (usually it takes a while for me to get out of bed..lol) I went downstairs to check up on them and they seemed ok. Momo's belly looked even bigger than yesterday. From a lot of reading in lovebird forums, I learned that they usually will lay about 4-6 eggs per clutch, one egg every other day. o_O...so I'm glad I got them a nesting box...getting them a nesting box and supplying them with nesting materials is the least I could do as their owner. If she does have more eggs...hatch or not, I'll deal with it. I know some owners doesn't want their birds to have baby birdies so they would replace the eggs with fake ones or take their eggs, boil them and put them back so they won't hatch. I can't get myself to do that so I'll just leave it up to fate...since Momo is ready and wants to have them. I'll leave it up to the both of them and see if they can have more eggs and hatch them. I was worried yesterday that there won't be any beddings at the bottom of the nesting box so I put more in while Momo was trying to attack me. >.< I was also trying to see if there's any eggs. It was difficult to see since the bedding is white, the nesting box is white, and the egg is white...lol...I couldn't see any.

Good News!

About a month ago I shipped out a package to one of my customer that I thought it was lost for sure. After I shipped it out, I received a message from her and she told me her Paypal shipping address was incorrect coz she moved already but forgot to change the address. There was nothing I could do since it wasn't my responsibility that the address wasn't changed and I mailed it out already...so I just told her I would let her know if the package returns to me. That was all I could do since I can't possibly send her a new one as it wasn't my mistake. After a month, (which is today) I received the package in the mail! It was returned to me~ I actually didn't think it will return back to me...so I was quite surprised. I took a pic of the package right away, and sent a message to her with the photo attached to let her know the package was returned back to me. I really thought it was lost coz if there was someone living at the address now, they could of just threw away the package or something if they didn't care about it since its not theirs. Its either there is someone nice living there or nobody lives there and the mailman couldn't deliver it. Anyways, now I'm just waiting for her reply with the correct address and postage and I can repackage it and ship it out asap. Hopefully there won't be any problems this time and it will reach there safely.~ =)

Speaking of packages, I'm still waiting for 2 packages in the mail. The buttons and the dolly sunglasses. I'm quite anxious about the buttons coz I really need them. I completely ran out of red buttons...sigh...kinda wished I knew I could custom order them sooner. Yea I thought my buttons supplier was still waiting for her shipment but it turns out she already got them...just that I didn't know about it. The reason is..she no longer sells them (by color) separately but instead all the colors together. I don't need all of them and plus I need more of some of the colors. I just took a chance and emailed her to see if she did receive her shipment and if I could order the colors separately. Good thing I did coz she did in fact received it and I could custom order it...so that was good. Now I just have to patiently wait for it. Hopefully I'll get it this week.

Finally done! woohoo!

Yes finally! I finally finished my 2 annoying essays! I'm so happy that its finally done! T___T.. I've been extremely busy with these 2 essays and orders I received from the past few days. The essays are due next monday and I originally planned to have them done by saturday. I can't believe I finished them a day ahead of schedule~ Now I can concentrate on doing the orders! I received my big fabric shipment the other day (thank god I didn't have to pay for any UPS fees) and I've been restraining myself not to work on them. Now I can touch them once I finish my orders~

Next month I'll be going on a small trip with my bf =D...hehe...I'm very excited since this will be our first trip. I'm looking forward to packing my bags and going on the trip~ I'll be bring one of my girls along to take pics and stuff but I'll need to customize her first. Hopefully I'll find time to do that before we go. I just have to sand her, give her lip gloss (clear paint on the lips), and cut her bangs. It should only take a day. I wonder if there will be any craft or fabric stores around.

Few days ago I bought some really cute sunglasses for my girls. I actually saw identical ones in HK last summer at BHC's store but I wasn't able to buy any coz the store owner said they are not selling them till a month later (which I was already gone)...I've been seeing them at BHC's website but they are a bit expensive for me for just sunglasses...but I must admit...they look really well made in person. (I saw the sample on display) Anyways, I saw replicas of the BHC's sunglasses (I'm pretty sure BHC made them first) and they were 1/3 of the price and plus it comes in colors BHC don't have. I normally wouldn't buy rip-offs but they pink (which was sold out at BHC anyways) and black (which they don't even have) I can't wait to get them in the mail. Maybe I'll take a pic of myself wearing my own sunglasses with one of my girls wearing hers...lol

I updated my etsy shop with tops like the pic on the left few weeks ago. I was having a hard time trying think of accessories that can go with the top to sell as a set. I thought of doing hair clip, purse, necklace, and earrings....but at the end, I chose not to do anything and just leave it the way it is...lol...I think it still looks pretty good plain like this. Sometimes plain is not a bad thing. =D
