Day # 41 Entry

I'm feeling more and more stressed out as to what to do...>.< I'm in a life or death situation with my birdies right now. Somebody help me make a decision!!

Ok this is what I'm stressed out about.
1. One of the last 2 eggs had holes on it for a few days now and I really think the baby died inside before being able to come out. Since there's already holes on it, the stuff inside will dry out and will start decaying. This will cause some heath issues if the egg is not removed. Having to remove the egg is the problem. To remove the egg, both my birds have to be out of the box so I can reach in the box to remove it....but Momo is always inside. Even when she's out, she can dash in quite quickly. Since the box is in the cage, I have to open the cage door to reach the nesting box door. By the time I reach the nesting box door, she's already inside. I'll have to somehow block the entrance hole from the outside when both of them is out. Maybe stick a chopstick through the bars to block the entrance? I dunno..>.<...another problem, the main problem is if I remove the egg, will Momo stop feeding the baby? The last 2 babies died right after I touched them. I'm stressing that even if I don't touch the baby, Momo knowing that I went in the box will still stop feeding it or even kill it. I dunno what she'll do if there is a egg missing too. If I do end up removing the egg and if she does stop feeding the baby, I'll have to pull it out to handfeed...but its still too young to be handfed. 10-14 days is the ideal age to handfeed. Earlier than that should be kept with the parents. Can I really wait till next week to remove the egg? o_O...that's too long! >.<

2. Handfeed or not...according to some expert breeders, handfeed /= tame birds. Socializing them is what tames them. It is recommended for beginners to leave the feeding to the parents, and just socialize with them. I'm scared if I handle them to socialize, they will stop feeding or kill it after I put it back. Should I just seriously pull it out to handfeed?...but either way, there is a chance it will still die...=( I understand the amount of time I have to spend feeding it and I'm devoted to but I'm scared that I'm not gonna do it right and it might kill the baby.

All this is stressing me out and I dunno what to do...=(

Day # 38 Entry

Haven't updated for a while..o_O... Well a lot happened since my last update.

Went on a weekend trip with my bf on August 16th and came back on August 18th. We went to seattle and I really enjoyed it. =D I was very happy coz it was our first trip. Even though it was short but it was fun! I planned on buying lots of clothing since we planned to go to the outlet mall and stuff (which we did go) but I couldn't see anything I wanna buy...=( I did however managed to buy other things during the trip...such as dolly dolly and Blythe books, fabrics, and some toys for birdies. My bf got me a ds game and a Juicy bracelet that I was planning to buy. =) hehe...I like it~ Now I just have to figure out which charms I wanna put on it. Actually there is one I wanna buy...I can only find it on ebay. The charm has a pair of peach faced lovebirds in a heart shape frame. The birds looks exactly like Momo and Melon. I"ll buy it once I save up some $$...I spent too much recently!

Here's updates on my birdies:

August 18th- Day #33:
When I got back, I went to check up on them. Before I went on the trip, I told my mom to help me change the water and give them fresh birdie bread to eat. I'm thankful that she did. =) Everything I check up on them, I would open the nesting box door to take a look at the eggs. This time is no different. When I opened the door, all of a sudden, a beige thing fell off right away. I screamed coz I don't remember seeing anything beige in there before. It will all the way to the bottom of the cage onto the newspaper. When I looked closely, it was a baby bird! It was moving...so I panically went to get a spoon, put the baby on it, and put it back inside the box. After that I went to call my bf and mom to let them know what happened. It only took a few minutes. After that I opened the door to see if it was ok...and it was dead...=( I accidently killed it. T_____T....it was really sad....

August 20th- Day# 35:
Second baby hatched. I heard little chirping noises once in a while. Like usual I opened the box to check up on them...but this time I had a towel on one of my hands and placed it underneath the box in case if a baby falls off....and it did! The second baby fell off right away! so I put it back in.

August 21th- Day# 36:
I went to check up on them to see how they're doing...the baby bird was still alive...however I noticed it wasn't fed...the crop wasn't big. The crop is the area underneath the neck and above the stomach area. Its where they store the food before it enters the stomach. I thought maybe I checked at a wrong time...maybe they'll feed it...so without doing anything, I left and waited for an hr before checking up on them again. 1 hr later, I checked and the baby was dead...=( It wasn't fed. I took it out from the nesting box and took pics of it to keep like the first bird. I compared the pics and noticed the first one was fed...so that means they knew they had to feed it. It was depressing seeing both baby birds died. Actually including the very first egg that fell down the cage, that's 3. Momo laid 6 eggs in total so half died already...=(

August 22th- Day# 37:
Third baby bird hatched! This time I didn't open the nesting box. I didn't want to disturb them anymore. I saw the baby through the hole of the box. It was fed and was wiggling its legs while on its back. It was so cute!

August 23th- Day# 38:
Today I went to peek through the hole and the baby is still alive and fed. I guess not opening the nesting box door helped a lot. The first 2 babies were on the edge of the door so when I opened it, they fell off. Whenever I try opening the door, Momo would come really close to it trying to attack me. While she's doing that, she accidently pushes the bedding down as well as the baby after I put it back in. This time I didn't open the door so the baby's been staying beside the eggs near the center...where it should be. Hopefully the baby will continuely be fed.

Day# 18 Entry

On thursday momo laid her 6th egg....and since then, she didn't lay anymore and she's been lying on top of them in the nesting box. I miss seeing her recently...she's been rarely coming out of the nesting box. =( and whenever I do, she'll quickly go back in. I noticed something however when she's out, she doesn't seem to have a lot of chest feathers anymore. I guess she's been plucking them out for her nest (coz there's a lot of feathers in there) Hopefully she won't overly do it or else I'll panic till they grow back...o_O

My dolly updates:

I've been updating my website recently...putting up updated pics and repair broken links, etc. It's quite time consuming but it looks a bit better than before. I'll continue to work on it a little bit everyday till I get it done. =D
